At Pohang, the 62 Air Group/Rotary Wing is based with the
623 Helicopter Squadron equipped with UH-1H and UH-60P, the Training Squadron flying the UH-1H as well as the SKMC 1st Division.
The SKMC received its first two MUH-1s on 10 January 2018 (see Scramble Facebook News 11 Janauray 2018). The introduction of a rotary wing within the SKMC was a step toward its aim of creating an independent aviation unit. This crash will certainly create a setback within the new Marine Corps aviation that is planned to be operational in 2021.
The MUH-1 is developed by Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) as part of a USD 744 million programme. The Korean Government ordered thirty Marineons with KAI.
