Struggling to get my head around that concept. Are we imagining the engine exploded and the EPR, N1, N2, fuel flow, vibration, oil pressure etc. etc. didn't register any change for 30 seconds?
That is exactly what the captain of UA1175 stated on the video. Watch the video in its entirety he states that for 30 seconds what probably were the longest 30 seconds of his life he knew they had a problem but the instruments on the flight deck pertaining to the engine froze or didn't register a problem for 30 seconds.
